Luke 2:27-35
This scripture describes the prophet Simeon’s encounter with baby Jesus in the Temple, where he praises God, recognizing Jesus as the promised Messiah, “a light to reveal God to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel,” but also warns Mary that this child is destined for conflict, a sign to be opposed, and that a “sword will pierce her soul,” foretelling Jesus’s suffering and the revelation of many hearts.
